Who's online
Internet Abuse
Submitted by don on Sat, 04/12/2008 - 23:23.
Everyone writes about Internet abuse. I have been wondering why nothing ever gets done about it. We all know about the constitutional right to pen (not literally anymore) anything we want to say. However, in out litigious society, how do people get away with slandering people (especially politicians) on the Internet? If a newspaper published most of these emails, they would surely be sued as they stepped beyond the realm of "Freedom of the Press". I am not a believer in more government intervention which would probably only make things worse. However, a couple of slander or liable suits wouldn't hurt the cause of correcting this misuse. In the meantime, anyone who sends them to me gets a nicely worded reprimand...then....block their address. Besides, I don't have time to read garbage. I am busy reading the more docile rags like the "Inquirer".
